Herb Body Mask Recipe

Herb body masks are effective detoxification methods that promote healing in the body, tone skin, and eradicate joint and muscle pain. You can make herb body masks at home for a fraction of the cost of a salon treatment with just a few ingredients. Although herb body masks are generally safe and nontoxic, be sure that you use herbs that you do not have a known allergy to and that you immediately rinse off the body wrap ingredients if you feel any discomfort.

  1. Aloe Vera and Clay

    • You can make this aloe vera and clay body mask to exfoliate and condition your skin. You will need 1 oz. aloe vera gel, 2 tbsp. of French, green or Bentonite clay, five to six drops of your choice of essential oil, such as lavender or sandalwood, and one cup of filtered or distilled water.
Stir all ingredients together with a large spoon, hand blender or whisk until the mixture thickens into a paste. Then, exfoliate your skin with a loofah, towel or brush. Stand in the bathtub and apply the mask to your body starting with your feet and ending with your neck. (Skip your private parts and breasts.) Wrap your body in sheets, towels or a large garbage bag and lie down in the tub for about 20 minutes. Take off the wrapping and rinse off the mixture. Apply extra virgin coconut oil, organic body lotion or massage oil to your skin.

    Herb and Epsom

    • You can make this simple herb and Epsom salt body mask at home. You will need one cup of powdered herbs such as ginger, lavender, chamomile or calendula, or a mixture of two or more of them, one cup of Epsom salts and two cups of Bentonite or Pink or Yellow Kaolin clay.
Boil about eight cups of distilled water on the stove. Remove the water from heat and add all of the above ingredients to it. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15 minutes or until it is comfortable to your touch. Dip large towels into the mixture and wrap your body with them, beginning with your ankles. (Don't forget to skip your breasts and private parts.) Wrap yourself up to your neck. Lie down under a blanket for an hour. Take off the towels and rinse off in tepid water. Dry off and massage oil or lotion into your skin.

    Tea Wrap

    • This herbal tea wrap will pull out toxins without the mess of the herbal and clay wraps. Lay a plastic sheet on top of your bed. Dry brush your skin with a loofah and then take a warm shower to open your pores. Fill a large bucket with very hot water and add one cup of either lavender, calendula, ginger or chamomile. Steep the herbs for about five minutes and then place two bath towels into the bucket. Wring out the towels and wrap them around you. Lie down on your bed for ten to fifteen minutes and relax. Rinse off with tepid water.
