Aromatherapy Blends

First step, list of 5 to 10 essential oils that have the properties you want for your new blend. You may want a blend that reflects several scent types or just a predominant overall category. Do you want a floral scent, a citrus scent, or an earthy scent? This is the time to establish your scent parameters. Next, decide which 3 or 4 essential oils from the research phase you'll use. If you find that they are of a predominant 'type', such as conifers or flowers, you might try to modify those scents with a 'neutral' essential oil.
Have a clear intention when creating your special blend which leads to success and is lots of fun. One example is the following blend:
Use ROSEWOOD (Aniba roseodora) or LAVENDER (L.angustifolia). If developing a blend that indicates VETIVER or ANGELICA, strong root oils, or YLANG YLANG or JASMINE which are intoxicating florals, usually 'lighten' them with LAVENDER, ROSEWOOD, or ORANGE (Citrus sinensis).

CREATING SPIRITUAL BLENDS
The purpose of a spiritual blend is to enhance your experience of connection to the Divine. Throughout the history of many religious traditions, the use of scent plays a part in lifting up the human soul to unite it with Spirit. Incense is a visual & aromatic reminder that prayers can be lifted toward heaven by the fragrant smoke. Resins have long been popular materials to burn for religious purposes.
Chief among them are Frankincense and Myrrh. Fragrant woods such as Fir and Juniper are also popular. So are Sandalwood, Cedar, and White Sage. Flowers are traditionally used in tropical areas for religious purposes. Making your own personal blend that can be used as an anointing oil can be an uplifting experience. Start with a selection of essential oils that to you represent Love, Openness, Gratitude & other spiritual emotions.
Hold each bottle of essential oil at the level of your heart. Close your eyes and inhale deeply. Observe what comes up for you in the context of the aroma, your emotions, and your spiritual awareness. Do this until you have chosen a few oils that resonate with you on a deep level. Now try blending 1 drop of each essential oil in an amber bottle. Keep things simple and only use 3-5 oils.

Go through the exercise again, holding this new bottle at heart level and inhale. You may choose to add more drops of one or two oils. When your experience with your blend is positive, add approximately 100 drops of jojoba or another oil of your choice to this combination. This is your personal spiritual blend.

ORGANIC BEAUTY CARE RECIPES

ORGANIC BEAUTY CARE RECIPES

Balinese Boreh Scrub

This Jamu (ancient Indonesian traditional medicine) treatment is a centuries-old recipe using herbs and spices which increase the blood circulation and ease aches and pains. It was given to me by a healer in Bali. It is used by Indonesian when they are sick as it is warming and help lower fever down

4 teaspoons of sandalwood spices
2 teaspoons of clove finely grounded
2 teaspoons of ginger powder
1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
1 teaspoon of coriander powder
2 teaspoons of rice powder or flour
1 teaspoon of nutmeg powder
1 teaspoon of mineral water or your favorite flower water
Directions
Combine all the ingredients together and pour in a bowl or glass container.
Gently massage this exfoliating scrub all over your body before you shower with a gentle body wash and rinse. Repeat once or twice a month.

Tropical Java Lulur

Javanese Lulur

Turmeric is a key ingredient in this Javanese recipe. Lulur is Javanese for “coating the skin.” It is a beauty ritual that leaves the body and mind relaxed and the skin soft and supple. This total beauty treatment involves a light massage, body mask and fragrant floral bath. Makes 10 ounces (1 treatment). 2 tablespoons rice powder

 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  2 cups plain yogurt
  3 drops jasmine essential oil
  2 drops sandalwood essential oil
2 to 4 ounces light oil (such as almond, avocado or macadamia nut)
Handful fragrant flowers, like rose, jasmine, frangipani or lavender

Direction
1. Mix rice powder, turmeric, yogurt and essential oils until well blended and set aside.
2. To use: Massage favorite light oil all over body. Gently rub the yogurt mixture onto body to exfoliate and polish skin. Rinse under a warm shower. Float flowers in a warm bath.Relax in the warm, fragrant water.

Volcanic Clay Body Scrub for Cellulite

25 gms (grams) (2 Tbsp) Balinese clay (or any clay with purifying  properties)

30 gms (2 Tbsp) sea saltwater

Direction
1.Mix ingredients together to make a light paste.Wipe over entire body. It leaves a thin white film and feels prickly asit penetrates the skin.
2.Once the paste is dry, rub the skin so that it is sloughed away.
3.Shower and massage. The best essential oils for cellulite are nutmeg and rose.
4. Add a few drops to your favorite carrier oil or body cream and apply liberally.

Cucumber Wrap for Sunburnt Skin

Feel the heat seep out of your sunburnt body using cucumber and essential oils. The bestCucumber Cooling Wrap is offered at the Spa at Bali Hyatt. Here's their recipe.

2 kilos (4 lb)cucumbers, plus skin and pips, whizzed in a blender

2 drops lavender oil ,2 drops tea tree oil, 2 drops camomile oil

Direction
1.Cover your body with the cucumber mixed with the essential oils.
2.Wrap the body in a gauze or cotton sheet; leave for 30 minutes.
3.The cucumber feels cool on tender skin and you can sense the heat being drawn out of your body. Cucumber leaves the skin soft, so moisturizing afterwards is optional

Bali Coffee Scrub

This scrub, rougher than some and ideal for male skin, is offered at all Mandara Spas (at The Chedi, lbah. Bali Padmaand Nikko in Bali), the Novotel in Lombok and Malaysia's The Datai) according to this recipe.

 200 gms (6 oz)Balinese coffee beans, ground

40 gms (3 tbsp)kaolin clay (or cosmetic clay available at health shops)

 pinch ground pumice stone (optional),

1/4 kilo (1/2 lb)carrots, grated or blended

l0gms (1 tsp) gelatin, already set (optional)

Direction
Balinese coffee is the most fragrant of all Indonesian varieties, but you can substitute this for your favourite blend.
1. Crush the dried beans quite finely and mix with the kaolin clay and ground pumice.
2.Add a splash of water. Rub over the entire body, later rubbing more vigorously so that the mixture sloughs off. 3.Rub the carrot, which can be mixed with the gelatin for easier application, into your body to replenish any lost moisture during the exfoliation process.
4. Shower and moisturize.

Coconut Body Glow for Sensitive Skin

Some 60-70 percent of women believe they have sensitive skin; if you fall into this category, try one of natures treats: freshly shredded young coconut (rich in nutrients but not over-abrasive). The Mandara Spa at The Chedi in Bali offers this scrub using nutritious coconuts from Sulawesi.

half young coconut, freshly grated,

1/4 tsp turmeric powder (or I cm tumeric root, grated),

1/4 kilo (1/2 lb) carrots, grated or blended

2 tbsp gelatin, already set.

Direction
1.Mix the freshly grated coconut with the turmeric (the latter is used for its cleansing properties and high vitamin C content)
2. Gently rub the mixture all over your body. Leave for five minutes and wipe off with a wet, warm cloth.
3.Mix the carrot and gelatin and apply to the skin. This adds conditioning nutrients to the skin after the exfoliating process

Beauty Definition

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

The characterization of a person as “beautiful”, whether on an individual basis or by community consensus, is often based on some combination of Inner Beauty, which include psychology factors include personality, intelligencegracepolitenesscharismaintegritycongruence and elegance, and Outer Beauty, (i.e. physical attractiveness) which includes physical factors, such as healthyouthfulnessfacial symmetry, averageness, and complexionStandards of beauty are always evolving, based on what a culture considers valuable. Historical paintings show a wide range of different standards for beauty. However, humans who are relatively young, with smooth skin, well-proportioned bodies, and regular features, have traditionally been considered to be the most beautiful throughout history.

A strong indicator of physical beauty is "averageness", or "koinophilia". When images of human faces are averaged together to form a composite image, they become progressively closer to the "ideal" image and are perceived as more attractive. This was first noticed in 1883, when Francis Galton, cousin of Charles Darwin, overlaid photographic composite images of the faces of vegetarians and criminals to see if there was a typical facial appearance for each. When doing this, he noticed that the composite images were more attractive compared to any of the individual images.Researchers have replicated the result under more controlled conditions and found that the computer generated, mathematical average of a series of faces is rated more favorably than individual faces.Evolutionarily it makes logical sense that sexual creatures should be attracted to mates who possess predominantly common or average features.

A feature of beautiful women that has been explored by researchers is a waist-to-hip ratio of approximately 0.70. Physiologists have shown that women withhourglass figures are more fertile than other women due to higher levels of certain female hormones, a fact that may subconsciously condition males choosing mates.People are influenced by the images they see in the media to determine what is or is not beautiful. Feminists and doctors have suggested that the very thin models featured in magazines promote eating disorders, and others have argued that the predominance of white women featured in movies and advertising leads to a Eurocentric concept of beauty, feelings of inferiority in women of color and internalized racism.

The black is beautiful cultural movement sought to dispel this notion. Mixed race children are often perceived to be more attractive than their parents because their genetic diversity protects them from the inherited errors of their individual parents. The concept of beauty in men is known as 'bishōnen' in Japan. Bishōnen refers to males with distinctly feminine features, physical characteristics establishing the standard of beauty in Japan and typically exhibited in their pop culture idols.
